06-21-07 - US-IRAN: New Arms Claim Reveals Cheney-Military Rift ** The use of the phrase ?irrefutable evidence? suggested that the Burns statement was scripted by the office of Vice President Dick Cheney. The same phrase had been used by Cheney himself on Sep. 20, 2002, in referring to the administration?s accusation that Saddam Hussein had a programme to enrich uranium as the basis for a nuclear weapon......Given the very small scale of the arms in question, Cheney?s interest in the issue appears to have much less to do with Afghanistan than his aim of ensuring that President Bush goes along with the neoconservative desire to attack Iran before the end of his term.

06-21-07 - Is WP's Cohen Dumbest Columnist? Cohen accuses special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald of violating longstanding Justice Department guidelines on when to bring a case; he denounces the trial ? over Libby?s lying about his role in unmasking covert CIA officer Valerie Plame ? as ?a mountain out of a molehill?; he asserts that there was no ?underlying crime?; he even pokes fun at Americans who thought the invasion of Iraq might have been a bad idea. Sounds to me to be a part of the Israel lobby that includes neocons such as Libby. The WP, like so many other rags, gives ample airtime to neocons, and has allowed Fitzgerald to be viciously attacked therein, in the not so recent past. It's why I no longer link to it. The WP is on the wrong side of justice.

06-21-07 - Nihilism and Neoconservatism With the presidential primaries of both parties effectively rigged against the possibility of a credible antiwar candidate arising to wrest the nomination from the pro-war front-runners, and the War Party's propaganda machine revving up its motors for another go, this time at Iran, we are in for a very explosive next couple of years. The reason is because the political system lacks any effective safety valves: there is no way for ordinary people to have any real impact, and therefore the special interests ? and the War Party is just a collection of very special ideological and corporate interests ? have taken over.
